About the Artist
Shayla Moose came from the University of the North Carolina School of the Arts' Graduate Program in Costume Design and did her Undergraduate studies in Theatre at Tarleton State University.
It became clear to Shayla’s parents early on that she was destined to pursue the arts as she was constantly drawing in books, on sidewalks, and to her parents’ dismay, a mermaid mural on her closet walls. Her love for artistic expression eventually expanded into theatrics, special events, literature, and anything artistic she can get her hands on.
Her costume designs were selected for exhibit in the 2011 USITT Young Designers’ Forum, Michael Merritt Design Showcase in Chicago, National Design Portfolio Review in NYC and Showcase West at UCLA campus.
Shayla is currently living in Texas, and managing the costume shop at Tarleton State University, as well as a collection of short story illustrations.
She is very taken with legends, myths, folklore and fairytales believing that they help shape our world, inspire creativity and encourage us to use our imaginations. Other loves include: rock climbing, the History Channel, and mermaids. Artists that inspire me today: John Petre, Michael Parkes, Raymond Moose
